What Is Truth?
“WHAT IS TRUTH?” Pilate, just before the crucifixion, asked Jesus face to face. But when he had said this, he left just as quickly, not waiting for the answer.
Truth today remains vague and elusive to many of us. We are like confused travelers journeying down the road to nowhere, confronted with different and conflicting signals of “truth.” But while various groups of people in different times claim to know the truth, only one man said, “I AM THE TRUTH” (John 14:6)
Who was this who dared make such claim? Was he a madman, a great liar, or is he really who he claims to be?
JESUS! He dared make that claim.
Who is he? He is the Holy One who died on the cross to redeem us from our sins. For what reason? It was his love for sinners that nailed him on to the cross. The Bible says that we are all sinners (Rom. 3:23) and that because of our sins, we deserve less than death (Rom. 6:23) “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). Out of His pure love and mercy Jesus gave up His own precious life: - that we might be saved! Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life” (John 6:47)
Do you believe Jesus’ claim? Your response to Jesus will determine your life in eternity. Believing means that you know in your heart that Jesus indeed IS THE TRUTH and that you are willing to take Him at His word… this is FAITH! It means trusting in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation, not on any other person, or thing, or even on your own abilities.
If, on the other hand, you do not believe, the Bible declares,”…but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:18).
Where do you stand before Him? How do you take His claim? Jesus is the TRUTH – and that, my friend, is the truth.
